Hockey player pathway questions

What is a hockey player pathway?

A player pathway shows where a child can start playing minor hockey and which programs are available at older ages, such as house league, local rep, regional A/AA and AAA. IceTime builds each pathway from official association sources and marks anything not yet confirmed.

Where does my child play hockey?

Most children register with the local minor hockey association that serves the community where they live. Pick your town above to see the likely association, then confirm eligibility with Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO), the OWHA for girls, or the association itself.

What is the difference between house, local rep, regional A/AA and AAA?

House league is recreational hockey run by your local association. Local rep is a tryout-based team from that association, regional A/AA associations draw players from several communities, and AAA is the highest minor level where offered. Exact labels and ages vary by organization, so IceTime shows each one exactly as the source lists it.

Are hockey pathways automatic promotions?

No. Hockey pathways are choices, not automatic promotions. At some ages families may choose between local rep and a regional competitive association, and each option requires its own registration or tryout and eligibility confirmation.

When can players begin hockey?

Most Eastern Ontario associations start players in U7 (about ages 4 to 6) with an initiation or learn-to-play program. Competitive options generally begin later, for example from U9, and AAA from U12 where it is offered.

How do girls' hockey pathways differ?

Girls' associations follow OWHA levels: house league, development stream and competitive teams, with AA and U22 only where an association offers them. Girls can also play in boys/mixed associations; IceTime shows girls' options separately so families can compare.
